Fibre
Our organic cotton is grown in India, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. The cotton is certified by Organic Cotton Standard which ensures that it has been grown solely on organic farms that take care of the soil, ecosystem and people by relying on biodiversity and local natural cycles.
Our hemp fibres come from China. Hemp has similar properties to linen; it is very strong and softens through washing. It is natural, breathable, absorbs moisture and dye easily, has anti-bacterial properties and is an effective insulator keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter. Hemp is a fast and efficiently growing fibre that requires almost no fertilisers and pesticides and very little water. Often called ‘super fibre’, hemp is great for the environment and extremely durable.
Fabric
Our hemp & organic cotton fabric has traditional denim look, but hemp gives the fabric particular feel. After spinning, half the yarns are yarn-dyed with indigo dye and half left undyed in ecru. The typical denim cloth is created by weaving the indigo-coloured yarn with undyed ecru in a 3/1 twill weave structure which makes the specific look of a denim cloth. Then the fabric is sewn into a garment and indigo dye is washed out to achieve the desired softness and worn look.
Factory
The yarn, fabric and garments are all made by our supplier based in Rushan, to the north of Shanghai. The garment factory is powered by solar panels and focuses on producing environmentally-friendly clothing using hemp. We are proud to have worked with this supplier and their team for more than ten years.
