Fibre
Our organic cotton is grown in India, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. The cotton is certified by Organic Cotton Standard which ensures that it has been grown solely on organic farms that take care of the soil, ecosystem and people by relying on biodiversity and local natural cycles.
Our hemp fibres come from France and China. Similar in character to linen, hemp is exceptionally strong and naturally softens with washing, developing a beautifully relaxed handle over time. It is naturally breathable, moisture-absorbent and its insulating qualities help to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. Often referred to as a ‘super fibre’, hemp is a fast-growing and efficient crop that requires minimal water, fertilisers and pesticides to grow.
Fabric
Our hemp and organic cotton fabric has the authentic look of traditional denim, enhanced by the distinctive character and texture of hemp. After spinning the yarn, half of the yarns are dyed with indigo, while the remaining yarns are left undyed in ecru. The traditional denim appearance is created by weaving the indigo and ecru yarns together in a 3/1 twill structure, forming the familiar diagonal texture of classic denim. The fabric is then sewn into a garment and washed to gently remove excess indigo dye, achieving the desired softness and a naturally worn-in appearance.
Factory
The yarn, fabric and garments are all made by our supplier based in Rushan, to the north of Shanghai. The garment factory is powered by solar panels and focuses on producing environmentally-friendly clothing using hemp. We are proud to have worked with this supplier and their team for more than ten years.
